"Family Engagement - Education's Best Kept Secret"
The concept of an engaged family takes on different forms depending on where you are located. The notion of a two-parent household is long gone and today...aunts, uncles, grandparents, and neighbors make up the growing "extended family" engaged in the education process of young people. It's been said that a parent is a child's first teacher. Research clearly shows that family engagement is a leading indicator of student achievement and valued at an additional 362,000 per pupil funding. With an increasing emphasis on families, this thought-provoking session will uncover the challenges to meaningful engagement while presenting solutions that minimize barriers for success.

BIG NEWS!!! Our Summer Literature Conference has a new home! Because of exorbitant increases in room prices at Mission Point, the MRA Board of Directors decided to find a more affordable alternative for our fabulous July conference. We are excited to announce that the 2016 Summer Literature Conference will be held at the Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, MI. The dates are July 13 and 14, which will enable people to attend both Nerd Camp and our conference. Watch for exciting updates in the coming months!!

Welcome to the Michigan Reading Association website! MRA's Board of Directors is proud to serve by leading and supporting efforts to promote literacy through the Great Lakes State. We continue to partner with educators and businesses, support our local reading councils, and provide for rich resources within our communities. MRA continues to concentrate on important topics through committee work and projects. We have a legislative committee for literacy updates, an International Literacy project, and student projects such as Great Lakes, Great Books and Kaleidoscope. MRA recognizes the work of our members by awarding an author or illustrator within our state with the prestigious Gwen Frostic Award and various literacy awards to local teachers and administrators.
If you are new to MRA or considering a return, you can find membership information linked on this website. As a member, you will receive access to discounts at our annual conference in March and our summer conference. In addition, members receive our highly acclaimed journal, The MRJ.
